Black women directors appointed at Corobrik

For Bertha Zwane and Nomvuyo Mkhefa, the first two black female directors to be appointed on Corobrik’s Board, the challenge of their new portfolio could not have come at a better time.

“We have both worked at Corobrik for a number of years and are proud to have been elected by the Trustees of the Staff Trust to represent them in this esteemed position. The journey was not without trials but our solid grounding within the company has prepared us to fulfill this two-year role,” says Bertha Zwane, Centre Manager Lawley.

Both Zwane and Mkhefa joined Corobrik several years ago, starting off in junior positions and slowly but surely have climbed the ladder to success. They have displayed an undeniable passion for their jobs and are now reaping the rewards of their hard work and the respect they have built with their colleagues.

Mkhefa and Zwane have been shareholders through the Employee Share Trust since its inception in 2008 when all staff with a year or more service became shareholders in Corobrik, this at no cost to the employees.

The Corobrik Share Trust controls twenty six percent of Corobrik’s share capital and has raised the control of the company in previously disadvantaged race groups to 60.95%. The structuring of the shareholding of Corobrik provided for two employees nominated trustees to be voted onto the Board of Corobrik,.

“Corobrik’s Share Trust is a demonstration of Corobrik’s ongoing commitment to transformation, empowerment and its employees. It has helped further garner the team spirit in the business, motivating and cementing employee commitment to the core strategies of the business. The strong financial position of the company, through what have been difficult economic times, bears witness to this. It’s not hard to understand why people who join Corobrik get so involved in the business and remain enthused.

Dirk Meyer, Corobrik’s Managing Director applauds the achievement of both Zwane and Mkhefa and congratulates them on their accomplishment.

“The influence of these two women who both have experience and are well grounded in Corobrik’s approach to business, will add to the already wide pool of knowledge and experience in the boardroom of Corobrik. We are exceptionally proud of them and look forward to their input,” concludes Meyer.
